Close to the end of consolidation

It is hard to believe after months and months of Kendyl being in the Consolidation phase, in just a few weeks she will be done. I have to apologize for not keeping things more up to date on this site . . . but I get so caught up in reading the Price's Caring Bridge page, I forget that this page needs updates too.

Kendyl has been remarkable through out this whole process, and Kevin and Renee continue to impress me with their strength and determination. Since I last wrote Kendyl celebrated her 3rd birthday with a very small Yo Gabba Gabba party. She had a great time, and I dont think there was a dry eye in the house when it came time to sing her the birthday song. Soon she will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas, and before we all know it, 2011 will be here.

With the way things are looking, Kendyl will be done with this phase by the end of the year, and in 2011 she will be in the Maintenance phase. This phase still includes being on medicines and variations of chemo, but it is much less intense, and Kendyl will be able to be out and about more and more. I know Kevin and Renee are really looking forward to this, as they just want to make things as normal as possible for Kendyl.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support of Kendyl and the Price's. They appreciate every kind word, email, prayer, card, and they especially appreciate all the people who have gone out of their way to support them financially. I will repeat, as I often do, that the Price's have not asked for money, but please still give if you feel that is what you can do to help!

I will try and be better about posting more often, but for now just pray that Kendyl exits this phase with no complications, and that she will be moving on to the last phase soon!

Consolidation continues . . .

Just wanted to post a brief update on how Kendyl is doing. She continues to be in the consolidation phase, and has just begun chemo again. She once again has an 8 week plan, this one has less trips to the hospital, but the chemo is more intense. Up until now, Kendyl has handled all the treatment remarkably well. She continues to be in good spirits, and has yet to have any major painful side effects of the chemo.

In reading the Price's Caring Bridge page, it is hard not to smile when thinking of Kendyl. She is facing this head on, with no fear, and continues to find joy in all the little things around her. What an amazing example she is to me, and all the adults around her. She is now walking everywhere, and cannot be stopped. She is even working on potty training =).

I will be out in CA next month, and cannot wait to see little miss Kendyl. I cant wait to see how much she has progressed since I last saw her in December, and I cant wait to give Kevin and Renee big hugs! They both continue to impress me so much on how they are handling the cards that have been dealt to them. I cant say if I would be able to do so well if I was in their shoes. I guess all I can say is this Price family is nothing short of amazing in my eyes!

Consolidation

So much has happened since my last post. I was able to spend most of December in California, and was able to see Kevin, Renee, and Kendyl many times. It felt so good to finally be so close, and be able to help out in any way they needed. Of course, when it was time to leave I was not ready, as I was not sure when I would get to see all of them again. All three of them are so dear to my heart, and it continues to be so difficult being so far away. The one thing that made it a bit easier to leave was knowing how well Kendyl is doing, and I just continue to pray for more good days than bad!

In December Kendyl finished her first month of treatment, and her leukemia is officially in remission! This is an answer to so many prayers, and it was so exciting to hear this news. Unfortunately, her treatment doesn't stop just because she is in remission, and on December 28th she entered into the next phase of treatment called consolidation. This phase is 10 months long, and Kendyl is currently in her third week of treatment. She continues to respond well to the treatment, and since her medications have been changed, she is once again the happy and fun loving little girl she was when this all started. She is also getting stronger, and starting to try and get around on her own again. So many positives have happened in the past few weeks, and I praise God for that. I just continue to pray that she will not have any major side effects from her treatments, and that Renee and Kevin will have the strength and peace of mind they need to take care of her on a daily basis.

At the end of each post I feel it is necessary to just remind those reading why this website was set up. To this day Kevin and Renee have not asked for any money, yet their finances have definitely been effected by this. Renee continues to be on disability from work, and although Kevin is working, he is having to take time off to help with Kendyl. No one should give who is not comfortable doing so, but if you feel like you would like to help, please do so. 3 weeks and counting . . .

It has been three weeks since Kendyl was diagnosed, and I now that Kevin and Renee can hardly remember what life was like "before". So much has changed, and so little feels the same as it was three weeks ago. Renee continues to tell me how appreciative she is of all those around her who are supporting her, Kevin, and Kendyl - and I know it warms my heart to know how much love has been sent their way.

I know this past week has been especially tough, since Kendyl has been tired, and her personality continues to change. I know we are all just hoping that this month of induction does what it is supposed to do, and that Kendyl will start to feel more like herself soon.

Continue to pray for Renee, Kevin, and Kendyl so they have the strength they need to get through this. Also, pray how you can best help them during this time. It could be financially, it could be bringing them a mell, it could be sending Kendyl a card . . . I know that anything and everything that is done is appreciated by them!

So much can happen in two short weeks . . .

It is hard to believe it has only been two weeks since Kendyl was diagnosed. So much has happened since then. I think we all feel like we have been on an emotional roller coaster! It has been amazing to see how quickly God can work and answer prayer, as evidenced by the healing that has already taking place in Kendyl. I know she still has a long way to go, but it was so nice to cry some tears of joy when I heard that she was reacting positively to the chemotherapy.

Now that the Price family is home, they are going to have even more time to sit back and think about how this all is affecting them. It is going to be awhile before they start to realize the financial strain all this might have, and I know they are so appreciative to all who are willing to help them. All of us were shocked when we learned last week that Kendyl has leukemia. No one expected this, and everyone who has heard has asked how they can best help Kevin, Renee, and Kendyl. Almost as soon as the news got out, people started asking me if they could financially support the Price family. That was what led to us setting up this site, so that people could easily donate to help them financially.

Neither Kevin or Renee has asked for money, and both of them were really moved by the thought that so many people wanted to help them in this way. At this point, they really have no idea what their financial situation will be throughout this process or after. They have no idea what kind of medical bills they will have after this is over, and already know that both of their incomes will be reduced during this time.

If people feel moved to give, please do. If you are not able to, please continue to pray. Kevin and Renee appreciate everything that people are doing for them, and when this is all over they look forward to thanking everyone who has helped them along the way!
